The development of the proposed PAK-DAM tool for the damage assessment of engineering structures will have a strong impact on:

  • scientific communities – 10 scientific articles related to the PROMINENT topic are planned to be published in high ranked international journals (Q1 and Q2 according to JCR – in the first 50% in the sci. field) during the PROMINENT realization, plus 12 more in 3 years after the end of PROMINENT.

  • society and environment – an application of PAK-DAM software will increase the safety of structures (dams, buildings, bridges, wagons, cars, airplanes, etc.) what will have strong impact on number of saved people in potential structure failures. More efficient, optimized, and sophisticated design of structures by application of PAK-DAM software will allow savings in the material what will have strong influence on environment. The extended environmental impact will be noticed by decreasing pollution caused by failure of infrastructural objects (waste and disposal of demolished material and its disposal).
  • economy and industry – the results of the PROMINENT project, and the developed PAK-DAM tool will improve the quality of structural design, reconstruction, maintenance, and remediation of metal and concrete structures by including a damage assessment step in structural design using the PAK-DAM software tool and offering new information indispensable for the process. That will also decrease expenses in engineering companies by decreasing the necessary engineer’s engagement for the inspection of critical damaged zones of structures. The expected wider industrial application of the PAK-DAM tool will be after the project realization period. The increase of safety can be measured by the number of engineering companies which will actively use the PAK-DAM in the structural design process and influence on the market. During the project realization, several companies in Serbia will be offered to use the PAK-DAM tool, while after the end of PROMINENT, that number is expected to be increased exponentially because the PAK-DAM will be a complete solution for structures damage assessment, well established in the literature by published papers, supported by user and examples manuals and visualization output for ParaView, GiD and FEMAP;
  • education and development of young researchers by introduction of Continuum Damage Mechanics theory, implementation of computation techniques, and experimental techniques into the curriculums of Applied Mechanics modulus 3 courses (Constitutive Modeling of Engineering Materials, Experimental Mechanics, Structural analysis of concrete structures) at FINK and students and young researchers’ involvement in the applicative numerical and experimental research;
  • University of Kragujevac (FINK, IITKG) and Republic of Serbia to become one of the strongest regional centers for the numerical and experimental investigation of engineering structures thus boosting applications for new research projects like Horizon Europe. This will be achieved by increasing researching potential of young researchers, equipment procurement, increased H-index of experienced researchers by publication of articles in top international journals, and the most important, by design and application of PAK-DAM software for damage assessment in concrete and metals, but also by extension to application on new advanced materials such as Shape Memory Alloys.
